The original SCADA for the BOPET line was outdated and would not meet all requirements of production engineers and line operators. The challenge was to replace the sluggish and proprietary SCADA with the user-friendly WinCC within a process down-time of about 3 days.

Both the WinCC operator stations were connected to their respective S5-PLCs over Profibus-FMS. Besides offering archived data in trends & reports, additional controls and formulae were incorporated in the HMI. Thus, the old system has been made completely redundant giving the operators more time to concentrate on their process than to face the system constraints of the old system.
