The generators are connected together via bus-bars and so a power network or grid is formed. Whenever power demand (load) increases, the required generator(s) kicks in. Before it is paralleled with the grid, the generator needs to be synchronized with the bus. There are five conditions that must be met before the synchronization process takes place. The alternator must have equal line voltage, frequency, phase sequence, phase angle and waveform to that of the grid.
Various electrical parameters are monitored via modbus interface. All 4 GENOP modules used for generator synchronization are connected on Profibus-DP. The entire system is monitored and controlled via WinCC station. A local operator panel aids in handling critical process conditions and thereby meeting varying load demands.
